Steven Sayers, PhD, is a CHERP Core Investigator and Associate Director for Education, VISN 4 Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC), at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center (CMCVAMC). He serves as the Director of the Psychology Advanced Fellowship at MIRECC. Dr. Sayers is an Associate Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.
Dr. Sayers' primary areas of research include family factors in mental and physical health, adherence to treatment, and family interventions for marital distress and chronic illnesses. Current research projects focus on family members' roles in suicide prevention in Veterans and family members' roles in encouraging Veterans to seek mental health care. He and his group have developed a telephone intervention for teaching family members how to have lethal means safety discussions with Veteran loved ones.
