Profile
Dr. Tessler is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon and health services researcher with a focus on health equity in surgical patients. His research focus is on the impact of personal and community-level trauma on colorectal surgery patients with malignancy, inflammatory bowel disease, benign anorectal conditions, and those undergoing screening for colorectal cancer and anal cancer prevention. He completed general surgery residency at UCSF-East Bay and UPMC and his colorectal surgery fellowship at University of Minnesota. He earned an MPH from University of Washington with a focus on epidemiology and global health and completed a T32 post-doctoral research fellowship at the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Tessler is an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery and a staff surgeon in the VA Pittsburgh Health System.
