Profile
Robert E. Burke MD, MS, is a hospitalist physician and Core Investigator with the VA Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP). Dr. Burke's research seeks to reduce unnecessary and undesired institutional care--including hospitals and nursing homes--in older adults. He uses principles of implementation science to improve care delivery for older adults at scale as well as big data approaches to improve policy and align incentives. He also actively mentors fellows and early-career faculty on related projects.
Dr. Burke matriculated from Stanford University School of Medicine and completed residency training in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. From 2011-2018, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado and as a hospitalist at the Denver VA Medical Center, before moving to the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center (CMCVAMC) and University of Pennsylvania in 2018. He has been continuously funded as a principal investigator in the VA since 2015.
