Profile
Dr. Helstrom’s research interests include health behavior change, trauma and PTSD, and the management of chronic conditions, such as tinnitus and chronic pain. Dr. Helstrom is a Staff Psychologist with the Primary Care Mental Health Integration program at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia (CMCVAMC). Dr. Helstrom also serves as the assistant director for the psychology residency program at the CMCVAMC. Dr. Helstrom’s research has included VA studies broadly focused on the management of chronic conditions among Veterans and in evaluating behavioral health treatment program outcomes at VA. Dr. Helstrom was most recently the Philadelphia site PI for “Precision Medicine in Mental Health Care (PRIME-Care)” project, a multi-site study of the clinical utility for prescribers of including pharmacogenetic information when treating depression (PI: Oslin).
Amy Helstrom, Ph.D., received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She completed a pre-doctoral internship at the VA Boston Healthcare System’s Boston Consortium. She then completed a VA advanced research fellowship at VA Boston where she completed a VA RR&D Career Development Award, “Predicting Health Behavior Change among Cardiac Patients.”
