Profile
Alexis Barrett, PharmD, is a Clinical Pharmacist and Health Science Researcher at the Department of Veterans Affairs. She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Public Health with a focus on Epidemiology from Emory University.
Since joining the VA, Dr. Barrett has led several national, multi-site medication utilization reviews to assess the safety and effectiveness of various health interventions. As a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Medication Safety and Outcomes, she played a key role in evaluating primary care prescribing practices and developing safety dashboards. Following her fellowship, Dr. Barrett was awarded a two-year QUERI initiative to Advance Diversity in Implementation Leadership in 2021. This initiative examined medication safety risks for Veterans receiving urgent care prescriptions from non-VA sources and supported the development of an Urgent Care Prescription dashboard as a quality improvement tool.
Dr. Barrett’s current projects include co-leading a real-time medication use evaluation of LEQEMBI and assessing antibiotic prescribing patterns in VA and non-VA Emergency Departments/Urgent Care Centers. Her work aims to improve clinical practices and health outcomes for veterans, reflecting her dedication to advancing the field of clinical pharmacy through innovative research and data-driven interventions.
