Training and Career Development

Fellows

CHERP does not currently host a VA Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship Program funded by the Office of Academic Affiliations. The training sites and contact information for VA Advanced Fellowships are found on the VA Office of Academic Affiliations website.

However, CHERP has an active commitment to develop leaders in health services research, implementation science, and the VA's mission as a learning health system. For example, CHERP supports early career investigators to align their work with our strategic goals to:

  • conduct research that improves Veteran health and health care.
  • engage stakeholders to ensure the relevance of our research.
  • provide mentoring and training to increase VA's capacity for HSR, implementation science, and partnered research.

In Philadelphia, CHERP co-hosts the Penn National Clinician Scholars Program (NCSP) - successor to the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program. In Pittsburgh, CHERP hosts post-doctoral training programs on women's health and medication safety, and provides a professional home for the Co-Director and staff of the Office of Academic Affiliation's national Coordinating Center for the Advanced Fellowship in Addiction Treatment. Despite their individualized training goals, early career investigators are mentored by CHERP PIs, and participate in shared seminar series and other curricula across the COIN.
