Lynn Baniak, PhD, RN, is the Associate Chief Nurse for Research at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. She co-chairs the Nursing Research Field Advisory Committee for the VA Office of Nursing Services and is a fellow with the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators. Her program of research investigates the impact of impaired sleep on patient outcomes and its implications for nurse performance and patient safety. Her current study, supported by the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship, is establishing evidence to guide a scheduling policy that is grounded in sleep science to reduce medication errors among nurses. Dr. Baniak was recently awarded a grant as MPI for the new Nursing Data and Research Consortium (NDRC)CORE (COR-24-170, PI Burkhart, Baniak, Petersen), in which she leads the initiative to cultivate inclusive networks aimed at advancing the VHA nursing research agenda and driving real-world impacts.
