CHERP Core Investigator, Daniel E. Hall, MD, MDiv, MHSc, has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2023 Under Secretary’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Health Services Research.
The Under Secretary’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Health Services Research is the highest honor awarded to VA health services researchers. The award recognizes investigators who:

Enhance the visibility and reputation of VA research through national leadership in the research community.
Dr. Hall's accomplishments include the development, with colleagues, of the Eisenberg award-winning Surgical Pause, which facilitates quick assessment of frailty prior to surgery. The Surgical Pause has been implemented at more than 50 VA medical centers and in a growing number of private sector institutions.
Dr. Hall joined CHERP as a Core Investigator in 2007. A former Career Development Awardee, he now serves as a formal mentor to undergraduate, medical school, graduate, and medical residents; and is an informal mentor to colleagues both within and outside VHA.
