Dr. Robert E. Burke Named Co-Director of new Hospital Medicine Analytics Team (HMAT)
CHERP Core Investigator, Robert E. Burke, MD, MS, SFHM, has been selected as a Co-Director of the Office of Rural Health’s (ORH) new Hospital Medicine Analytics Team (HMAT). Dr. Burke will work with Dr. Charlie Wray, DO, MS, SFHM, from the Center for Data to Discovery and Delivery Innovation (3DI) at the San Francisco VA Healthcare System to lead HMAT’s efforts to provide the best evidence to operational leaders and optimize the quality and value of inpatient medicine services, particularly in rural areas.
HMAT's initial activities will concentrate on two primary domains:
- Examining the association between hospital volume and quality of care indices, with a specific focus on rural facilities
- Describing and measuring modifiable hospital characteristics and their associations with hospitalist burnout
The HMAT initiative, launching this FY (FY25), will be integrated into ORH’s Center for the Evaluation of Enterprise-Wide Initiatives (CEEWI) portfolio.
